Hiking

The Eifel is a true hiking paradise!

Whether you prefer a relaxing walk or a sporty hike, there are some of the most popular hiking trails in Germany near the Eifel-Camp.

The first stage of the Ahrsteig starting from Blankenheim ends directly at Lake Freilingen and one of the most beautiful stage hiking trails in Germany, the Eifelsteig, runs just a few kilometers from the Eifel-Camp. In addition, there are hundreds of kilometers of hiking trails through the forests and meadows of the beautiful Eifel!

Many designated hiking parking lots can be quickly reached by car from the Eifel-Camp.

Since the Eifel-Camp is situated in the middle of forests and meadows, you can also start your hikes directly from the camp. Whether a day trip or a short walk – you can always discover new wonders of nature. Especially popular are the circular trail around Lake Freilingen (approx. 3 km) and of course the Lampertstal nature reserve with its unique flora, which is approx. 5 km away.

The free brochure with hiking routes in the municipality of Blankenheim and the hiking map no. 12 (Blankenheim/Oberes Ahrtal) of the Eifel-Verein show beautiful hiking opportunities and tourist highlights. You can get both at the reception of the Eifel-Camp.

Nordic Walking

Marked Nordic Walking routes start directly at the Eifel-Camp Freilinger See. The Nordic Walking route network created here has a lot to offer for beginners as well as for experienced walkers. Nordic walkers can try their hand at three different routes and show whether they are up to the endurance and strength requirements of the Eifel countryside.

The following routes are offered:

2.3 km (easy)

6,4 km (medium difficulty)

7,2 km (difficult)

The Nordic Walking Centre at Freilinger See meets the quality criteria of the DSV and offers good opportunities to get to know this sport and practice it health-consciously with supplementary information boards on topics such as instructions on the technique of Nordic Walking and pulse measurement, exercises for warming up, strengthening and stretching.

Swimming

With its excellent water quality, Lake Freilingen invites you to bathe and swim.

The lake can be used by boats and surfboards but is closed to motorboats to ensure undisturbed swimming and bathing.

A lawn for sunbathing and a shallow shore make the lake suitable for beginners and families with children.

Every weekend from mid-May to mid-September, depending on weather conditions, the DLRG is on site to ensure carefree bathing and swimming fun.

Information on swimming pools in the region is available at the reception desk.

Radfahren

The North Eifel is perfect for ambitious cyclists or e-bikers:

the landscape is diverse, and small villages invite you to linger, castles, museums and other sights lie on the roadside many times.

Proven cycle routes with several sections can be found in the immediate vicinity of the Eifel-Camp, such as the 230 km long Eifel-Höhen-Route, which leads through the most diverse landscapes of the Eifel past castles and cultural sites.

The very popular Ahr cycle path is only about 3 km south of the Eifel-Camp. The cycle path is very family-friendly, as it runs mainly along bicycle and field roads or on a former railway line. With a few exceptions, there are no steeper inclines.

But also racing cyclists enjoy themselves here: the little-used roads of the Eifel are well asphalted and offer varied training tracks with partly steep ascents and descents in a beautiful natural landscape.

Of course, mountain bikers will also find perfect conditions in the Eifel. Demanding trails through incomparable nature make mountain biking in the Eifel a real experience. Two well-signposted trails even lead directly past the Eifel-Camp.

Triathlon

If not here where else?!

The Eifel with its natural surroundings is perfect for the trend sport triathlon with the popular individual disciplines swimming, cycling and running.

The Eifel-Camp offers perfect training conditions for triathletes: a dreamlike lake for open water training is right in front of the door, the selection of different bike and running tracks from the Eifel-Camp is simply great.

In addition, there is an optimal infrastructure in the Eifel-Camp:
from a lockable bicycle garage, dry lockers for neoprene suits and track maps with popular bike and running routes. Here you can find everything a triathlete’s heart desires. And of course, there is also a proper triathlon. On the last weekend in June, triathletes from near and far can compete at the legendary EIFEL HERO.

The roads around the Eifel-Camp are excellent for motorcycling. They are even recommended by the European Motorcycle Union and the ADAC as particularly motorcycle-friendly.

Countless small, demanding, winding roads with little traffic and well-developed federal roads provide variety and guarantee unforgettable rides.
